# My own consultancy: an AI visibility baseline, with nothing redacted

In October 2026 an agency asked me for a sample AI visibility audit. Every audit I had run belonged to a client under confidentiality, so I ran one on myself. Claude, with live web search, answered sixteen questions a prospect of mine might ask. It found me every time someone asked for me by name, and never when someone asked who to hire.

## The engagement

My own name and sites, measured the way I measure clients: a fixed question set, every answer saved word for word, and a second pass that recorded who was named, my position, the tone, each factual claim about me, and every cited source.

## What I found
- **Branded questions:** named in 3 of 3 answers, with my sites cited in each.
- **Open hiring questions:** named in 0 of 9. The names came from marketplace listing pages, an agency directory, and "best consultants" roundups.
- **How-to questions:** 0 of 4 answers cited any of my guides. Vendor blogs supplied most of the citations.
- **Accuracy:** 46 factual claims about me across the branded answers. Most were right. Four needed action, and every one traced to a page I control.

## Tracing the wrong facts

One answer gave my consultancy the founding year of my earlier agency. The cause was a single sentence on one of my own About pages that named both companies and both years. The assistant kept the first year and attached it to the second company. I split the sentence into two lines, one company and one year each.

Another answer described my sites as a preview that hadn't launched. The source was a public GitHub repository README, still carrying launch instructions written before the site went live. I rewrote it to say the site is live and to point readers to it.

Older figures, a stale Upwork status and job count, came from a profile page on my personal site written two years earlier. A recognition the assistant called unconfirmed, a 2012 Forbes contributor's ranking, turned out to be real: the archived list shows me at number 33. It needed a link, which I added.

## What the gap means

The answer to "Is Chris Abraham a good SEO consultant to hire?" put it plainly: almost everything it found about me was written by me. The sites were crawlable and current. The rest of the web hadn't caught up. That finding sets the program: complete listings on the marketplaces the answers drew from, pitches to the roundups that supplied the hiring names, and independent coverage over the following months. My guide to [earned mentions](https://christopherabraham.com/guides/earned-mentions/) describes the outreach side.

## Cost and method

The full run cost $1.88 in API fees and took about fifteen minutes. The same sixteen questions rerun monthly give a trend, and the method is in my guide to [measuring AI share of voice](https://christopherabraham.com/guides/ai-share-of-voice/). One engine on one day is a reading. The monthly series is the measure.

## Status

The errors on the sites I build from code were corrected the same day, and the older profile page is next. Outreach follows, and the next run will show whether the open questions start to name me.
