When Google's AI does the booking, be bookable

A diner types "find me a table for four near Clarendon at seven on Friday, somewhere quiet with good pasta" into Google's AI Mode. Google searches several reservation services at once, checks which places actually have a table, and hands back a short list with buttons that complete the booking. A restaurant that only takes reservations by phone is not on that list, however good its reviews are.

How the feature grew

Google introduced agentic restaurant reservations in AI Mode in August 2025, first for people enrolled in its Labs experiments in the United States. The companies Google named as partners at the time included OpenTable, Resy, and Tock for dining, Ticketmaster, StubHub, and SeatGeek for events, and Booksy for local appointments such as hair and beauty.

In November 2025 restaurant booking opened to everyone in the United States without the Labs sign up, while event tickets and local service appointments stayed in Labs. In April 2026 Google took restaurant booking to eight more markets: Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. Each time the mechanics were the same. Google queries the reservation platforms it works with, compares live availability, and links the guest to complete the booking on the partner's system.

The plain requirement: live availability on a platform Google reads

The AI can only offer a slot it can see. For a restaurant, that means taking online reservations through a platform Google works with and keeping its availability current there. For a salon, barber, spa, or similar appointment business, it means an online booking system with real calendar slots, which is where a partner like Booksy fits. Event venues need their inventory on a ticketing partner.

If you already use one of these platforms, check that your listing there is complete: the correct business name, address, cuisine or service type, price range, photos, and a calendar that reflects reality. A platform profile that shows no availability because nobody maintains it reads the same as no profile at all.

Your Google Business Profile still decides who gets considered

Booking sits on top of ordinary local search. The AI first decides which businesses match the request, using the same signals that drive the local map results: category, location, hours, reviews, photos, and what the web says about you. Then it checks who can be booked. The groundwork is the same as always:

The new Business Profile performance reports show whether booking clicks are rising after you make these changes.

Test it the way a customer would

Open AI Mode and ask for your kind of business the way a real customer would, with a day, a time, a party size, and a reason. Try three or four variations. Note whether you appear, whether you appear as bookable, and who appears instead. Repeat the same questions monthly. If a competitor across the street keeps getting the booking, compare their platform profile and their Business Profile with yours line by line; the difference is usually visible.

What this does not cover yet

Appointment and ticket booking were still Labs features in the United States at the last public update I can confirm, and Google has not opened flight or hotel booking in AI Mode. Contractors, clinics, and law offices are not in this booking flow at all. For them, the work remains being the business the AI names and links to, which my guide to service area businesses on Google covers.

Questions owners ask about AI bookings

Do I have to switch reservation systems?

Only if yours is not one Google reads. Ask your provider directly whether it supplies availability to Google's booking features before you change anything.

Does Google charge me for an AI Mode booking?

The booking completes on the partner's system, so any fee is whatever your reservation platform already charges under your agreement with it.

If you want me to run the customer test for your business and compare you with the competitors who keep winning it, book a 30 minute call or reach me on Upwork.
