AI shopping readiness for small online shops
Shoppers now ask ChatGPT and Google's AI Mode to find the right product and compare a few options. Whether yours makes that short list depends on data most small shops never look at: the feed, the product pages, and the policies a machine reads to decide whether you are a safe recommendation. I check all three and fix what keeps you off the list.
Who this is for
This review fits independent shops on Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, and similar platforms, usually with a few dozen to a few thousand products, run by an owner or a small team. It is also useful just before you apply to Google's early access checkout program or to OpenAI's merchant program, when a clean application matters.
What I review
First the feed. I read your Merchant Center diagnostics and your product data the way the assistants receive it: one row per variant, real stock, prices that match the page, accurate shipping and tax, images of the actual item, and identifiers that hold steady between updates. Then the product pages, checking that titles, descriptions, and structured data agree with the feed and with each other, and that the facts a shopper asks about, such as size, material, compatibility, and care, are written out in text rather than buried in an image.
Next come the trust pages. Shipping, returns, warranty, and contact pages need stable addresses and plain wording, because both OpenAI's feed rules and Google's merchant requirements point to them. Finally I run real shopping questions through ChatGPT and AI Mode, the kind your customers ask, and record whether you appear, how you are described, and which shops appear instead.
What I fix
On your platform I correct feed attributes, variant structure, and product markup, and I rewrite the product facts and policy pages that are thin or contradictory. Where a fix needs a developer or an app change, I write it up as a specific task with the field, the current value, and the correct value. I also add campaign tagging to feed links so shopping traffic from AI assistants shows up separately in your analytics.
Programs and waitlists
I explain which programs fit your store today and which do not. Google's in AI Mode checkout runs through early access in the United States, Canada, and Australia, and OpenAI accepts merchants into its feed program by application. I help you prepare the materials each one asks for. I do not sell placement, and nobody honest can, because neither company offers it for sale. My guide on selling inside ChatGPT and AI Mode explains the current terms in more detail.
What you receive
A written report with the feed issues by severity, the page and policy fixes made or specified, the before and after results of the shopping questions, and a short list of what to watch each month. If you sell seasonally, I can time the work ahead of your busy weeks, the way I describe in my peak season readiness service.
Before an AI shopping review
What access do you need?
Read access to Merchant Center and your store admin to start. Edit access only if you want me to make the fixes myself rather than hand them to your team.
Is this different from ecommerce SEO?
It shares the foundation. My ecommerce SEO work covers rankings across the whole store; this review focuses on the product data and pages that AI shopping answers read.
