AI visibility: what the answer engines say about your business, and how to change it
For buying searches, the first thing a customer reads is increasingly a paragraph written by a machine. In August 2026, Google showed an AI Overview for 88% of the 400 US commercial keywords Semrush tracks, close to double its share a year earlier, according to Search Engine Land. I find out what those paragraphs say about you, fix the sources they draw on, and report on them every month.
Why the answer gets it wrong
An AI answer is assembled from whatever the system can find and cross-check: your website, your Google Business Profile, directory listings, reviews, and what other sites say about you. When those sources disagree on your name, address, services, or hours, the system picks whichever version it can corroborate, and that is often a competitor's. "Best," "near me," and "which should I choose" searches have shifted the most, and those are the searches where a customer makes up their mind.
Three ways to work with me
1. AI Visibility Audit: $750, fixed price
I run the searches that bring you business through Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini and record every answer: correct, wrong, missing, or naming a rival. Then I compare your name, address, phone, and services across your site, your Business Profile, and the main directories. You receive a written report with each fix ranked by impact. You own it, and any developer or agency can act on it.
2. The Claim Sprint: $1,500, fixed price
The sprint repairs what the audit finds, in two layers.
- The technical base: a full crawl, a Search Console review, titles and meta descriptions, and broken links and redirects.
- The claim layer: entity schema with sameAs links, an llms.txt file, one canonical page that explains what the business is, and FAQ markup, so an assistant has something precise to quote.
Changes I can make directly, I make. Anything inside your developer's codebase reaches them as a ticket with the exact change and a way to check it, the same way I work on release QA.
3. AI Presence, Measured: $500 a month
Answers move. A competitor publishes, a directory updates, and the assistant that recommended you in March names somebody else by June. Each month I rerun your search set across Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Perplexity and send a short written report: what moved, what the answers say now, and the next fix.
Where it's already running
- A fireworks retailer with several locations: a baseline, then monthly measurement across Google Search, Maps, ChatGPT, and Perplexity.
- A therapy practice: the complete audit, with every listing checked against what the assistants read.
- A media company: the claim layer itself, with entity schema, llms.txt, an explainer page, and a baseline.
- A communications firm bought the audit at $750 as a pilot.
For the method behind it, see measuring AI share of voice and my own AI visibility baseline, published with the unflattering numbers.
How to start
- A thirty-minute call. Pick a time and bring your site and the searches you most want to win.
- The audit. A written, ranked report that belongs to you.
- Your choice. Run the sprint with me, hand the list to your own team, or add monthly measurement. Scope and price are agreed in writing before any work starts.
